I'm Thaddeus, a home cook and recipe creator based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Yes, Michigan, the place where winters are long, lake-effect snow is very real, and a pot of something warm on the stove is basically a survival skill.

I've been cooking since I was old enough to reach the counter, and over the years it's become the thing I love most about being home.

I'm not a classically trained chef and I've never worked in a restaurant kitchen. What I am is someone who genuinely loves food, thinks about it constantly, and finds real joy in figuring out what makes a dish click.

My approach to cooking is practical, curious, and just a little obsessive in the best possible way. I believe that great food doesn't have to be complicated, and that cooking at home should feel good, not stressful.

My Expertise

My cooking skills didn't come from a culinary program. They came from years of trial and error, from following recipes that failed, from understanding why they failed, and from building something better the second and third time around. I've spent a lot of time in my kitchen testing the same dish multiple ways before I feel confident sharing it.

My goal is always to write recipes that are clear, reliable, and genuinely worth making. I want every cook who tries one of my recipes to feel capable and confident, not confused or defeated. I test for the home cook, not the professional, and that difference is baked into everything I write.

My Journey

I started SavorCooking after realizing that the recipes I kept coming back to, the ones I'd written down or saved on scraps of paper, deserved a proper home. Michigan winters have a way of pushing you inward, and for me, that meant more time in the kitchen, more experimenting, and eventually more sharing. The website started small and grew slowly, which I actually think made it better.

Every recipe that went up had been made multiple times, eaten by real people, and revised until it felt right. What motivates me today is the same thing that motivated me at the beginning: the idea that cooking at home is one of the most satisfying things a person can do, and that anyone can do it well with the right guidance.

"I'm proud of the fact that every recipe on this site has been made with care and tested with honesty. What you'll find here are dishes that actually work, written by someone who takes the home cook seriously and always will."
